Ancient Churches Lexicon Entry:

Methushael

Back to: Lexicon Index | Lexicon Home

“Methushael” was not the name of an actual person, but the name of a heresy of the Most Ancient Church. It was descended from an earlier heresy called “Cain.” Nothing is known about Methushael other than just the name itself; however, Swedenborg indicates that something could possibly be deduced from the derivation of the name. Methushael’s parent heresy was called “Mehujael,” and the heresy that followed was “Lamech” (AC 404).
