Ancient Churches Lexicon Entry:
Dancing
Back to: Lexicon Index | Lexicon Home
In ancient times, joyful feelings in the heart erupted into various activities in the body, such as playing musical instruments, singing, and dancing. Since in ancient times the most joyful feelings were spiritual ones (that is, they were affections for goodness and truth), people were allowed, when they engaged in singing and musical harmony, to dance as well, to bear witness to their joy (AC 8339).
